Dit heb ik aan Mr. Lee Child geschreven (die daar overigens niet op heeft gereageerd):

"Dear Mr. Child,

I read all your work with the greatest interest. I was looking forward to read 61 hours.... but what a disappointment it was... The story drags on and on and I really think it's a rather cheap trick (pardon the expression) to end with... "to be continued".

Unfortunately the resemblance with Dan Brown and John Grisham springs to mind: they both don't seem to be inspired anymore, leading to books that are not as good as the previous once.

I sincerely hope that you will take the time to prepare new books and challenge your readers again. I promise you that I will give your next novel a fair chance.

At 34 Jack Reacher (JR) was an effective but too brilliant MP major when Uncle Sam retired him after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Born on a West Berlin army base, he received his marching orders on another army base. Since then JR has lived a nomadic life in the US, without livestock or baggage, buying a full set of clothes every 4 days.
His 14th adventure finds him in the ice-cold small town of Bolton, SD. Only John Sandford writing about Minnesota, Martin Cruz Smith in his wintry Soviet/Russian thrillers starring Arkady Renko, and Lionel Davidson in his masterpiece "Kolymsky Heights" situated in Siberia, can rival LC's horror account of moving about in South Dakota in extreme winter conditions.
LC fabulates JR to new heights, adding more countries to his CV, school-wise or on active duty. His secret personal file now has 73 separate entries covering his efficient execution of duties (in and out of service), and rare lapses of judgment and overreaction. He has rightly been termed the thinking man's action hero: great powers of induction and deduction, physical prowess and "knowing 5 seconds ahead of everyone else what is going on". Simple good manners and his wish to move on, also endear him to local law enforcement.
This superlative book brings together secret physical remnants from WW II, such as a small brick house in the prairie west of Bolton, its contents guarded by a colony of speed-trading bikers, a ruthless crime boss called Plato (from Brazil?, from Mexico?), and frequent telephone contact between JR and MP Susan, sitting in the same office and chair JR occupied in the special MP-unit he started eons ago. A truly chilling book. At least 3 sympathetic characters die in a similar manner. JR feels guilty. LC's latest is not an open and shut case. The sequel is announced for Autumn 2010.

Mooi geschreven. Leuke actie verhaal. Realistisch gebeuren en dialoog.

Dat er meer mensen engelse boeken moeten lezen.
Gewoon boeiend, interssant,en goed Voorne brein

Boeken van Lee Child leg je pas weg als je ze uit hebt. 61 Hours is geen uitzondering.

Zoals elk boek met Jack Reacher in de hoofdrol leest ook dit boek heerlijk weg. Spannend, goede dialogen en doordacht.

Zeer langdradig. Bij elk uur gebeurt er....niets, werkelijk niets. Het lijkt er op dat mr Child geen inspiratie meer heeft. Dit boek kan je eigenlijk in 1 hoofdstuk plaatsen. Wat dat betreft steekt een John Connolly of Chris Mooney als auteur ver boven Child uit. Dat terwijl ik de eerste boeken van Child wel goed vond. Het komt op mij in ieder geval over alsof Child futloos is en dat over brengt op zijn karakters!

Wat ik vooral goed vind: spannend, fantasierijk.

Jack Reacher speelt ook in 61 Hours de hoofdrol. Hij komt bij toeval terecht in een geïsoleerd stadje en een gevaar komt - binnen 61 uur - nabij. Het is een boek dat je in één ruk uitleest en zeker leuk als je ook de vorige boeken hebt verslonden.
