This is an excellent sequel to World's End, picking up where the previous book left off. If you missed the first book that doesn't necessarily have to be a problem because the story is summarized at the beginning of the Darkest Hour. Nevertheless, I highly recommend that you read World's End first. Both books contain a fast-moving plot, engaging flawed characters and an eclectic mix of fantasy, horror, mystery and action, predominantly in a modern setting. Be sure to check out the final book of The Age of Misrule too - Always Forever.
