Dit is geen review over de inhoud van het verhaal, maar sla de hodder uitgave over. Helaas want het heeft een mooie cover maar ongelofelijk veel spelfouten en namen worden constant verkeerd geschreven. Zeer slordig. (Betreft de uitgave 2017, in 2021 besteld)

‘Dune Messiah’ picks up the story of Paul Atreides, the legendary Messiah of planet Dune, twelve years after the revolution described in Frank Herbert’s seminal novel ‘Dune’. These are the heydays of the unavoidable Jihad which have left Paul in charge of the Empire, turning him into both a political and a religious leader. He has obtained many worshippers, but with his religious government he has also created enemies who gather to plot his demise...

Obviously it would be nearly impossible to match this book’s brilliant predecessor ‘Dune’ and it doesn’t completely achieve that. The biggest problem in this novel is the prose: Frank Herbert often loses himself in fuzzy religious mysticism and impenetrable, woolly philosophical digressions. In many cases the only effect this has is to obscure the main flow of the story, making this novel a somewhat inaccessible work with a pretentious feel to it. Still, it is very much worth the effort, because even though the story is not very surprising (the main events are already hinted at in the prologue of the book) it does provide a new and dramatic chapter to the history of Paul ‘Muad’Dib’ Atreides, adding new depth to his tale and to the Dune saga. The story is profound and intelligent and achieves to convincingly demonstrate that Paul’s gift of prescience is perhaps more a curse than it is a blessing. Though this book is only suitable for people that have previously read ‘Dune’ it does come highly recommended for the people that have!

Leuk om het verhaal in de originele taal te lezen. Na het lezen van deel 1 was het lezen van dit deel een must.

Gegeven als verjaardagscadeau aan mijn vriendin. Ze was er superblij mee aangezien ze in het eerste deel bezig is. Aanrader voor de fantasy/sci-fi fan.
