Beschrijving
This book contains 11 essays by the Dutch art historian Ilja Veldman, who has built her expertise on printmaking in a career spanning more than 30 years. Most of the essays have been published previously in journals and lesser-known conference proceedings, or in books which are hard to obtain nowadays. A few other essays were specially written for this occasion. With the emphasis on function, meaning, literary sources and general cultural background, they deal with various themes that characterize Netherlandish printmaking: religious and moralistic, philosophical allegories, depictions of daily life, classical antiquity, but also with the production of prints and contemporary views on the craft.
