Het boek bevat 18 portfolio's van Nederlandse fotografen en videokunstenaars die zich de laatste twintig jaar intensief hebben verdiept in het veranderende aanzien van het Nederlandse landschap. In hun fotoseries doorbreken zij het stereotiepe beeld van het pittoreske Nederland van de 17e eeuwse landschapsschilders en toeristische ansichtkaarten en tonen aan hoezeer de natuur onder druk van urbanisatie, globalisering, het herstructuren van de economie en de strijd tegen het water volledig onder menselijke controle staat. Tot de deelnemers behoren Hans Aarsman, Wout Berger, Jannes Linders, Bas Princen, Marnix Goossens en Edwin Zwakman. In vier essays beschrijven Maartje van den Heuvel, Tracy Metz (de samenstellers), Alison Nordstrom en Auke van der Woud de culturele transformatie van het Nederlandse landschap en de visie van de fotografen daarop. Iedere portfolio wordt tekstueel ingeleid. Het prestigieuze, 288 pagina's tellende boekwerk is fraai vormgegeven en full colour gedrukt. De teksten zijn volledig Engelstalig. Dit boek verscheen naar aanleiding van de Triennale in Apeldoorn en een gelijknamige tentoonstelling in Kroller-Muller (tot 28 september 2008).
