Over Engeland zijn behoorlijk wat reisgidsen verschenen, de een wat beter dan de andere. Een van de beste en meest uitgebreide is ongetwijfeld deze Rough Guide, waarin zo ongeveer alles wat een toerist maar zou willen weten terug te vinden is. Het boek is ingedeeld in handzame hoofdstukken die ieder bovendien in oranje blokken extra achtergrondinformatie bieden over zaken ter plekke. Nuttig is het deel met basisinformatie over de reis ernaartoe, over geld, banken, over wat te doen in noodgevallen, welke binnenlandse vervoersmogelijkheden er zijn, openingstijden enz. Het laatste hoofdstuk biedt een kijk op de geschiedenis van Engeland, overzichten van monumenten en gebouwen, informatie over Britse popmuziek, een relevante geannoteerde boekenlijst, een filmoverzicht en een gedetailleerd register. Voorts is een flink aantal kaarten en plattegronden in oranje en zwart-wit, zwart-witfoto's en kleine kleurenfoto's opgenomen. Alleen de tamelijk kleine druk werkt remmend.
