Andree at the North Pole With Details of His Fate (Classic Reprint)
Résumé
Excerpt from Andree at the North Pole: With Details of His Fate
The idea of reaching the North Pole in a balloon occurred to Andree in 1882-'83, while he was spending the winter in Spitzbergen as a member of a scientific expedition. This idea grew upon him during years of subsequent toil and study, in the course of which a number of notable aerial voyages gave him the necessary training and experience, especially that of the 19th of October, 1893, when he was carried by a westerly wind across the Baltic to Finland, and that of the 29th of November, 1894, when he was carried three hundred miles across the Baltic from Gothenburg to the Island of Gothland.
