Jokha Alharthi
al-Harthi has published three collections of short stories and three novels (Manamat and Sayyidat el-Qamar), ""Narinjah"". She has also authored academic works. Her work has been translated into English, Serbian, Korean, Italian, and German and published in Banipal magazine. She was also one of eight participants in the 2011 IPAF Nadwa (writers' workshop). al-Harthi won the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature, for her novel Narinjah (Bitter Orange) in 2016.
Sayyidat el-Qamar was shortlisted for Zayed Award 2011 and has been translated into English by Marilyn Booth. It was published in the UK by Sandstone Press in June 2018 under the title Celestial Bodies, and won the Man Booker International Prize 2019.

Un livre très intéressant!

Ce livre raconte l'histoire de Salima et de ses trois filles d'Oman. Tous les trois traitent différemment les changements socio-économiques qui se produisent. La sœur aînée Mayya est amoureuse d'Ali bin Khallaf mais épouse l'homme qui a choisi sa famille: Abdallah. La sœur moyenne Asma peut bien apprendre et se marie par amour, mais cela arrive à sa cousine, donc ça va. La plus jeune sœur Khawla attend son cousin Nasir et menace de se suicider si elle est mariée à Ali. Salima elle-même est mariée à Azzan, qui donne à son équipement tout ce dont elle a besoin, mais en attendant elle triche. Des années plus tard, Abdallah (le mari de Mayya) raconte à quelqu'un dans l'avion la relation difficile avec son père et son mariage. Il aime Mayya mais quand elle lui demande si elle l'aime, elle lui rit toujours au nez. Il a été élevé après la mort de sa mère par l'esclave de son père, Hafiza. Avec Hafiza et son fils Sanjar, l'esclavage est aussi un thème car son abolition est l'un des changements sociaux auxquels les personnages doivent faire face. Le livre est difficile d'accès car il y a de nombreux personnages et des changements de perspective très désordonnés. Mme Alharthi n'a tout simplement pas la technique pour écrire une bonne saga familiale. Cependant, elle a bien intégré divers aspects des changements culturels, par exemple en ce qui concerne le libre choix du partenaire et l'accouchement. Par conséquent, il aura remporté le prix Man Booker. Je n'ai pas aimé moi-même et cela ne m'a pas fait réfléchir.

Un aperçu fascinant d'un pays arabe un peu moins connu, d'autant plus qu'il est écrit dans une perspective féminine, bien que l'homme soit certainement - et peut-être même plus intéressant - discuté. Je n'avais aucune idée que l'esclavage était là, appris quelque chose à nouveau!
