Helen's Summer

In the summer of 1885, Helen Kerr, is an ordinary middle-class girl, except that she is soon to become the proprietress and general manager of her father's Manhattan print shop. She is a girl with a future, a girl with a plan with no need or intention of making her way in life through matrimony.


Then Helen and her best friend, Caroline, are invited to the country for three months. They sign on as under-gardeners at the wealthy Vandenberg family's summer house.
When Helen befriends a dissatisfied houseguest she sets in motion a sequence of events she never intended, threatening all her plans.
