Résumé

The Indian higher education, modeled by Lord Macaulay a century back, is turning irrelevant for the emerging global knowledge society. Significant shortfalls in dynamic and qualified faculty, huge gaps between the imparted and expected skill-sets and a greater disconnect with the market and social needs have plagued the system. Reforms since independence had a myopic approach and casual attitude towards management and revitalization of higher education essential for socio-economic development. We need to reengineer current models of delivery, quality, management and regulation of education for generation of globally competent human resource. The present volume, having articles from authorities like APJ Abdul Kalam, P.N. Srivastava, S.P. Thyagrajan, S.K. Thorat, Panjab Singh, H. P. Dikshit etc., attempts to provide solutions to the above problems and catalyze sustainable transition from quantity-based system into that of quality, instilling entrepreneurial and innovative skills among our youth ensuring their competence for worldwide acceptance and a developed India by 2020.
