She feels an instant connection to him and suddenly Elle begins to question the life choices that she has made and wonders if things could be different. As Elle and Steven form a stronger bond, he wonders what part of Elle's loyalties is nature and part is nurture. He wants her to re-evaluate her relationship with Malcolm, who he feels is just "not right." He wishes she could pull herself away from her Mother, who is more focused on politics and Malcolm's future in those said politics. Steven also struggles with his growing feeling for Elle, in the shadow of his own failed relationships and doubts about if he really knows what love is. Can Steven come to terms with his own feelings? Can Elle find away to overcome what has been part of her life for so long?
