Un merveilleux livre de vacances: passionnant, facile à lire et une touche de romantisme. Ce sont cinq femmes différentes avec des antécédents différents qui finissent par découvrir qu'elles ne diffèrent pas autant les unes des autres qu'elles le pensent ou le souhaiteraient. Vous jetez un regard sur la vie des expatriés américains, leurs motivations pour ne pas vouloir vivre dans leur propre pays et vous avez également un aperçu de la vie d'un Afghan, jeune et vieux. Il n'a pas beaucoup de profondeur, même si vous pouvez lui faire réfléchir sur le (s) rôle (s) dans lequel (s) les hommes et les femmes se laissent déprimer par leur environnement et le prix à payer pour cela. Ce n'est pas un livre littéraire, il ne veut pas l'être, mais c'est un livre intelligemment lu. L'écrivaine a elle-même vécu à Kaboul et connaît la situation en Afghanistan, elle ne dit aucune absurdité désastreuse.
