J'ai commencé à penser que ce livre était une histoire intéressante et détaillée de l'Egypte ancienne "de 300 avant JC à Cléopâtre". Mais peut-être que ce sous-titre aurait dû sonner l'alarme. Pourquoi pas "Narmer à Cléopâtre, ou 3000BC à 30BC Pour les premiers chapitres que j'ai pensé?" C'est intéressant "ou" Comment est-ce que quelqu'un sait "mais les doutes. Dans la tentative de fournir une histoire accessible avec l'histoire?. , Toby Wilkinson a éliminé presque toute l'ambiguïté et la pondération prudente des preuves fragmentaires qui sont certainement une partie inévitable de l'égyptologie. Le livre est très facile à lire. Il est bien illustré et les notes de fin fournissent de bonnes références à d'autres livres pour ceux d'entre nous qui veulent en savoir plus, et, mieux encore, il fournit une version chronologique des événements afin que nous puissions savoir quel roi a suivi lequel, et comment ils différaient dans leur règle. À l'origine, je veux donner au livre 3 étoiles, mais c'est certainement injustifié. C'est parce que je ne suis pas d'accord avec certaines des théories des conclusions du Dr Wilkinson - et c'était injuste. Il mérite 4 étoiles, pour la clarté de l'écriture et la présentation générale. C'est vraiment recommandé.
