It is six years since the three sisters have all been together. The reason for their reunion at Calder Lodge is the death of their stepmother, Zara--an event that provokes several unwelcome discoveries. The three settle into their usual sibling pattern: Vanessa, the eldest, a domestic perfectionist in the classic maternal role; Jamie, back from her high-powered job in America, the rebel of the family; and Phil, the youngest, accepted as the low achiever, always ready to adore and admire the other two.
