Dit is een fantastisch calculusboek, met gigantisch veel opgaven (de meeste paragrafen hebben 30 - 40 opgaves), veel voorbeelden en duidelijke figuren. Het boek begint bij het begin (het hoofdstuk "preliminaries" beslaat wiskunde tot en met ongeveer 4vwo-niveau), en beslaat alles: afgeleides, integralen, calculus in meer variabelen t/m de stelling van Stokes, en gewone differentiaalvergelijkingen. In de 10e editie zijn t.o.v. de 9e editie twee hoofdstukken toegevoegd: H11 "Arc length, metric spaces and applications" en H20.4 "Calculus of Variations". Deze twee hoofdstukken vind ik meteen de enige minpunten van het boek. Vooral H11 is een stuk minder duidelijk dan de rest van het boek, en de beide nieuwe hoofdstukken gaan over materiaal dat totaal niet essentieel is. Het voelt alsof deze hoofdstukken toegevoegd zijn om maar iets nieuws te hebben, maar het boek als geheel wordt er niet beter op. De nieuwe hoofdstukken hebben ook relatief weinig opgaves om te oefenen met het materiaal - je kan dit materiaal beter uit andere boeken leren. Dat betekent vooral dat, mocht je de 8e of 9e editie ergens goedkoper kunnen krijgen, je dat vooral moet doen - maar hoe dan ook is het een topboek!!

De inhoudt van dit wiskunde boek gaat over (zoals de naam al zegt) Calculus. Het is een engels boek met een uitgebreide uitleg, vele voorbeelden, en een groot aantal oefenopgaven. Het boek is zeer compleet betreft theorie en oefening, en kan het iedereen aanraden die zich calculus eigen wil maken. Er zijn veel oefenopgaven aanwezig, waarbij de antwoorden van de oneven genummerde opgaven achter in het boek te vinden zijn. De antwoorden van de even opgaven zijn niet aanwezig in het boek, hiervoor moet de solution manual aangeschaft worden. In deze solution manual zijn naast de antwoorden ook de uitwerkingen van de opgaven te vinden.

Een zwaarwegend boek met luchtige verhandelingen om thuis te geraken in het voor mij mooiste gedeelte van de wiskunde: CALCULUS. Een mooi boek voor een redelijke prijs.
