Het is een populair wetenschappelijk boek. Er staan veel aardige inzichten in, en ook over data-verzameling steek je het nodige op. Maar de gebruikte statistische methodes zijn minder goed.

Great, well-written and inspiring book. The author discusses the results of his fascinating research which is most often based on the results of google search data. From my point of view it surely is an inspiring research approach for academics (I can't wait to have a look to these data myself). It is however also very welcoming to non-academics. It is written with a personal touch and not with a tough and non-understandable academic language. I would recommend not to buy this book when you prefer taking weeks or months to finish reading. Once you start you surely will finish reading within less than half a week :). It is not a lie.

Huiveringwekkend wat er aan data beschikbaar is, intrigerend wat je ermee kunt. Briljant zijn de analyses op basis van harde data waarmee verschillende heilig huisjes in onze cultuur onderuit geschoffeld worden. Iedereen die beroepsmatig met data te maken heeft zou dit moeten lezen. De voorbeelden over de toepassing van Big Data en Data Science werken zeer verhelderend. Voor de intensieve gebruikers van Social Media is dit boek zeer verhelderend over hoe men gemaipuleerd wordt.

Ik geef 5/5. Kijk aub naar mijn titel. Als je mijn titel extrapoleert naar de score, komt je tot de ontdekking dat de titel korrect is en iedereen dus liegt. Dat is ook de boodschap van het boek. Je mag dan zeggen dat de 5/5 (wat een leugen zou zijn) dus correct is. Wie weet watvoor redenering dit is?
