Flâneuse is een overtuigend werk. Elkin schrijft vlot en geestig, terwijl ze de inhoud niet lichtzinnig behandelt. Op toegankelijke wijze bespreekt ze architectuur, fotografie, literatuur en film in het licht van emancipatie en feminisme, waarbij ze ook zelfkritiek niet schuwt.
