Memories from Norway Book 5: This picture book is the last of 5 about cruiseing along the Norwegian coastline. This book covers the northern coast of Norway from Tromsø to Kirkenes: our last stop. We experienced quite variable weather on this part of the cruise with foggy mornings, clear blue skies and stormy conditions. As we were well into the Arctic Ocean by the end, the latter was no surprise. In the morning the ship overnight had reached Havøya: an island stop for the cruise, passenger and freight ship. The island is separated from the mainland by a very narrow (in geographical terms) strait from the mainland. The township of Havøsund was pretty typical of those seen in the far north of Norway, except all we could really see was the dock, the rest being shrouded in fog. The cruise then travelled in Magerøsundet in quite nice weather. Here the islands and mainland were bare of trees. The ship then docked in Honningsvåg, seemingly the largest town on that day’s cruise. It is found on the island of Magerøya, probably the northernmost (reasonably-sized) island of Norway. A very much anticipated side trip cruise was to the island of Storstappen, a famed sea bird sanctuary and nesting place. On the way herds of reindeer were grazing. The next day found us in Kirkenes, a quick disembarkment and then off to the airport for the end of the Norway coast cruise which was far more than expected. The book provides some insight into what could be seen on such a typical trip. Each photograph has an adjoining page with a brief explanation. It is meant to show what an average person could see on such a cruise: good weather and bad! As one of the world’s natural wonders, it is easy to get a huge range of photographs of the land, the ice and some of the denizens. The file size limit of the eBook format is the reason for 5 books. This book has 87 still photographs, six very short video clips, as well as a brief page of description for each. The original photographs (taken by the author, an amateur, with amateur equipment) are very large and so need compressing to fit in the file limit. If you have wondered what such a trip might be like, have a read. If you just would like see an amateur view of the Norwegian coast, have a read. Ideally, have a read and get as much enjoyment as the author did in being able to collect these ‘Memories from Norway’.
