A Palestinian American born in Mandatory Palestine, he was a citizen of the United States by way of his father, a U.S. Army veteran.

Scherp inzicht in onderliggend racisme bij vroeger en hedendaags Orientalisme. Iets dat interesse voor en kennis over Arabische en Aziatische culturen lijkt, maar door de beoordeelde culturen niet vanuit haar beginselen maar louter de eigen te bezien, vervalt het tot hoger inschatten van de waarde van eigen cultuur dan die van de Arabische of Aziatische culturen.

    Orientalism is een academisch werk, maar toch leest het vlot en is het goed te volgen (af en toe moet je wel een moeilijk woord opzoeken) Over de inhoud is al veel geschreven, dus dat ga ik hier niet overdoen.
