"Richard Phillips Feynman (/ˈfaɪnmən/; May 11, 1918 – February 15, 1988) was an American theoretical physicist, known for his work in the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics, and the physics of the superfluidity of supercooled liquid helium, as well as in particle physics for which he proposed the parton model. For his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics, Feynman, jointly with Julian Schwinger and Shin'ichirō Tomonaga, received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965.

Geschreven bij Pleasure Of Finding Things Out

Feynman was een genie vergelijkbaar met Einstein, die een grote bijdrage aan de fysica heeft geleverd. Daarnaast had hij een hele menselijke kant: een gigantisch gevoel voor humor en ook een gevoelsmens. Ik was diep geroerd als hij over de ziekte en het sterven van zijn grote liefde schrijft. In het boek is ook het verhaal over zijn bijdrage aan het onderzoek naar de ramp met de space shuttle beschrijft. Hij zat in de regeringscommissie die de ramp onderzocht en maakt duidelijk dat hij door generaal Kutyna op het spoor was gezet van de rubber o-ringen en hij beschrijft zijn bijdrage. Dat was typerend voor Feynman: een groot man die graag anderen credits gaf voor hun bijdrage.
