Georgia O'keeffe Circling Around Abstraction

One of America's most innovative and most popular artists, Georgia O'Keeffe is rightfully celebrated as a pioneer who worked in her own style and on her own terms. Her very name calls to mind her striking imagery: magnified views of flowers, iconic vistas of the American West, and haunting bones floating against the sky. But emphasis on the stunning beauty of such paintings has obscured what was perhaps O'Keeffe's most significant contribution to art history: her unique approach to abstraction.
