This book has 800 pages, and if this scares you away, don't let it, because it reads quick. It's well written, and a very good conclusion to a very good series. We all know the fairy tale this book is retelling, Snow White lives with her evil stepmother the queen, becomes more beautiful than her, the queen tries to assasinate her and Snow White runs, ending up with seven dwarves. After eating a poisoned apple, she dies but the prince saves her by kissing her. I don't particularly like the original story, because Snow White is a beautiful girl that needs a prince to save her, but I love retellings, because most retellings turn Snow White into a rebel against the evil queen.
Winter is a lunar princess, but not by blood. Her mother died, and her father remarried queen Levana after that (she was not evil then, don't blame her father). Levana became evil because of her gift, the ability to manipulate thoughts and make people see what she wants them to see. All lunars have this gift, but Levana's is strongest because the royal family has the Strongest gift. Winter sees the evil caused by this gift, and refuses to use it, even though this makes her see things that aren't real. For example, she thinks the walls of the palace are bleeding, and she thinks ice is growing on her at some point. This book doesn't always follow the original fairytale, but contains some major elements. Interestingly, the prince and the huntsman are the same person in this book. Snow White isn't the only story being told in the book, as Cinder, Scarlet and Cress are main characters as well, all of them trying to overthrow the evil queen Levana before she conquers Earth.
This book is 800 pages, and it needed those pages to tell the story, it isn't rushed, and those 800 pages will be worth it.
