Prachtig! Werkelijk met plezier gelezen. Korte introducerende teksten met mooie illustraties.
Eenvoudig uitgelegd, niet te diep op ingaand (het is ook geen onderzoeksboek). De Islamitische Gouden Eeuw is een feit in de geschiedenis en dit boek beschrijft de aspecten waarin deze 'eeuw' vooruitgang had geboekt en wie de personen achter deze vooruitgang waren. Hier en daar zit er een citaat van de Profeet Mohammed, de Heilige Koran dat het, naast wetenschap, inzicht geeft in de religie van moslims en hoe de religie in die tijd een bron van inspiratie is geweest om tot zulke inzichten in de wetenschap te komen.

Helder, kleurrijk, veel wetenswaardigheden. Geschreven aan de hand van een groot scala aan bronmateriaal. Onderdeel van een razend populaire tentoonstelling.

Who would have thought that the first Libraries, Universities and Hospitals were created by the Muslims? This book is beautifully presented; facts are accurately listed with great diagrams and illustrations. I have been saying for years that there is no such a thing as the dark ages as the Islamic scholars and scientists were at the top of glorious production, now, I can say that with a book that shows evidence.

I do not understand the review from Meinraad. His/her argumentation is nonsense and shows poor historical knowledge. It is full of hatred, this is not a review. It is free aggressive stubbornness. He/she might need first to write in a proper Dutch language before discussing inventions and origins. (Robinson Crusoe is gebaseert … hoort met d.

Alhazen (Ibn al-Haytham) also gave the first clear description[6] and early analysis[7] and invented the camera obscura and pinhole camera. While Aristotle, Theon of Alexandria, Al-Kindi (Alkindus) and Chinese philosopher Mozi had earlier described the effects of a single light passing through a pinhole, none of them suggested that what is being projected onto the screen is an image of everything on the other side of the aperture. Alhazen was the first to demonstrate this with his lamp experiment where several different light sources are arranged across a large area. He was thus the first to successfully project an entire image from outdoors onto a screen indoors with the camera obscura.

Een analogie; stelt U zich voor dat de Katholieke kerk een boek maakt met de titel `De heilige wetenschap van de universele kerk'. Zou dan het idee dat religie wetenschap voortbrengt U al doen fronzen van verbazing? Nee?
Wellicht moeten er feiten worden aangeboden om uw gedachten te veranderen.
Het boek zelf behandelt bijvoorbeeld de camera obscura, wikipedia meld dat het GRIEKSE uivinding betreft. Of in ieder geval al bekent ver voor de opkomst van Islam
Niet Islamitisch. Robinson Crusoe is gebaseert op Ibn Tufail's Hayy ibn Yaqdhan, leuk maar geen wetenschap het gaat om verhaal.
Sommige antieke `Moslimwetenschappers' die worden genoemd waren helemaal geen Moslims, maar zelfs anti-Islam.
Laat U niet misleiden door dit gedrocht en religieuze propaganda voor kinderen. Heeft Kierkegaard niet geleerd, wellicht cynisch, dat voor geloof bewijs niet noodzakelijk is?
