The Children of Dune are twin siblings Leto and Ghanima Atreides, whose father, the Emperor Paul MuadDib, disappeared in the desert wastelands of Arrakis nine years ago. Like their father, the twins possess supernormal abilitiesmaking them valuable to their manipulative aunt Alia, who rules the Empire in the name of House Atreides.
Facing treason and rebellion on two fronts, Alias rule is not absolute. The displaced House Corrino is plotting to regain the throne while the fanatical Fremen are being provoked into open revolt by the enigmatic figure known only as The Preacher. Alia believes that by obtaining the secrets of the twins prophetic visions, she can maintain control over her dynasty.
But Leto and Ghanima have their own plans for their visionsand their destinies....

Wat een aanrader!

Super boek, zeker een aanrader. Kende het eerste boek al, maar na de film ben ik een beetje verslaafd aan de serie. Ben nu bezig met de laatste twee boeken. Ik was al helemaal fan van de film, maar dit topt het helemaal.

The story in ‘Children of Dune’ takes place nine years after ‘Dune Messiah’. Paul’s sister Alia is now the regent of the Empire and as the rebellion is growing she finds it increasingly more difficult to resist her outer and inner demons. The ecological evolution of the planet Dune is taking it from a desert planet to a place of vegetation and open water. Paul’s children Ghani and Leto realize that this is a transformation that could endanger the very survival of the sandworms that form the sole source of Dune’s precious spice melange ...
‘Children of Dune’ is a novel that will require full and undivided attention of the reader to make sense of the psychedelic visions and impenetrable pseudo-philosophical excursions that this book is littered with. Though these happen less often as in the previous novel ‘Dune Messiah’, they do occur much more than is necessary for the story. Often their only effect is to make this a very inaccessible work that is not able to grab the attention and requires great persistence to get through. Also, whereas ‘Dune Messiah’ compensates those moments with a gripping storyline this is much less the case in this novel which reads more like a soap opera with very little new to offer, dragging on in court intrigue and power games where every party plots against everyone else to the point that it becomes hard to follow the motives of the people involved. The story does take an unexpected twist around a quarter from the end bringing the novel to a satisfying conclusion, but it is just too little too late to prevent this book from being suitable to only the most die-hard fans of the Dune saga. The rest should see this as just the introduction to the fabulous sequel ‘God Emperor of Dune’.Vond je dit een nuttige review?46
