Dan Harrington

"

Dan Harrington was born on December 6, 1945 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. From his youth, he was interested in games with an intellectual challenge, thus his foray into the world of backgammon, chess, and poker. He spent years as a professional bankruptcy attorney, but much of his time was spent honing his gaming skills, even during his days at Harvard Law School with the likes of Bill Gates. During his days on the East Coast, he became a champion at backgammon, and he won the 1971 Massachusetts State Chess Championship, relegating him to status of chess master. He spent a great deal of time at the famed Mayfair Club in New York during the 1980's, playing high stakes cash poker games with players like Howard Lederer and Erik Seidel. By the later that decade, he was making his way to the live tournament circuit. In 1995, Harrington claimed two World Series of Poker bracelets, one being a $2,500 no-limit hold'em tournament and the other being the $10K NLHE World Championship, the latter garnering him a $1 million prize. Though his many years of live tournament poker showed numerous final tables and wins, the most significant since the WSOP was his 2007 World Poker Tour victory at the Legends of Poker, which was his biggest financial score to date of $1,635,365. Harrington continues to play poker, but also works in real estate and dabbles in the stock market. He has also written several books that are much acclaimed in the poker industry, including three volumes of ""Harrington on Hold'em"" and two volumes of ""Harrington on Cash Games.""
