Samenvatting

For a significant portion of psychology students, their reason for choosing an undergraduate degree in psychology is their interest in applied psychology and a desire to use psychological knowledge to help solve personal and social problems.

"This timely book will meet an increasing need for more detailed coverage of applied psychology in this growing field of endeavour."
Professor John Rust, Director, The Psychometrics Centre, University of Cambridge

"This applied psychology text by Prof. Davey is outstanding, highlighting the main fields of clinical, health, forensic, educational, occupational and sports psychology. He provides the reader with the most up-to-date research, theories and practice in these applied occupations. This is a must read for anyone wanting to pursue a career in any of these areas, you will enjoy it and you will learn a great deal from it."
Professor Cary L. Cooper, CBE, Distinguished Professor of Organizational Psychology and Health, Lancaster University Management School

"This text affords students with a thorough overview of psychology in practice. The material on sport and exercise psychology was excellent and I feel sure that my students would gain immensely from being able to draw a direct comparison between how psychology is practised in our discipline and others. In particular, the information on accreditation and regulatory bodies is key for students wishing to forge a career in psychology; the text is an invaluable aid in this regard."
Costas Karageorghis, PhD, CPsychol, FBASES Reader in Sport Psychology, Deputy Head (Research) School of Sport and Education, Brunel University

''This is a valuable book for those studying applied psychology. The coverage of professional roles, how psychological concepts permeate practise, and its overall breadth and skillful blend of evidence, theory and professional issues make it a front runner.''
Adrian Wells, Professor of Clinical and Experimental Psychopathology, University of Manchester

For a significant proportion of psychology students, their reason for choosing an undergraduate degree in psychology is their interest in applied psychology and a desire to use psychological knowledge to help solve personal and social problems. With this in mind, this textbook has been designed to satisfy these needs for applied psychology teaching at all undergraduate levels.

Applied Psychology is designed to introduce students to the six main areas of applied psychology (Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Educational Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Forensic Psychology and Sports & Exercise Psychology) from UK, European and international perspectives. It also introduces the core psychological knowledge that underpins these applied and professional areas. As a result, students learn core knowledge from the five main areas of psychology, as well as acquiring a thorough grounding in how this knowledge is applied, and the professional issues associated with that application.

Highlights include a broad range of teaching and learning features designed to help the student learn and the teacher teach. These include: Focus Points, Colour Illustrations, Activity Boxes, Research Methods, Case Histories, Self-Test and Essay Questions, Learning Outcomes and Section Summaries, a Glossary as well as Links to Journal Articles and Further Reading.

The text is written to be accessible to Level 1 Introductory Psychology students, and also to provide the core knowledge and professional information that students at Levels 2 and 3 would require.
