Samenvatting

In the 1990s we witnessed the growth of computer software providers from small businesses into multi-billion dollar giants. In 1998 it was easy for such companies to raise money. But investment funds have dried up. Why? And more importantly, is there a way to reverse the trend?

After reading the newspapers and following the sharp oscillations of the stock market, it becomes apparent that hi-tech companies are of a different breed. Never before have the chances of making a fortune been so realistic and never before have large companies been so fragile. What is really going on inside these hi-tech companies? What types of pressures and challenges are they facing? And how do they cope? Computer software providers, especially the ones that specialise in handling the data needs of organizations, are prime examples of these volatile companies. In the nineties we witnessed their growth from small businesses into multi-billion dollar giants. No wonder investors were attracted. In 1998 it was easy for such companies to raise as much money as they wanted. But now, investment funds have dried up. Why? And more importantly, is there a way to reverse the trend? This book gives the answers.

  • After the goal and nothing is luck a new master piece

    Positieve punten

    • Goede verhaallijn
    • Meeslepend verhaal
    • leerzaam en illustartief

In the novels of Goldratt and his followers they prove in a very illustrative and digestable way key priciples applicable in (the manufacturing) business by showing you how companies got in to problems and their quest to solve these problems. The form of the novel make you really see all sides and makes you gradually see the inevitability of the provided solution.

In line of bestsellers 'the goal' demonstrated the prinicples to (pre)financing
To close the time gap between handing over the goods in return for payment the banks of the supplier and the customer play an important role. This process is as follows: the bank of the customer issues a Letter of Credit (LC) stating the items, price, terms and conditions etc. to the bank of the supplier (the advisory bank).
sort out the operations and 'nothing is luck' demonstrated the importance of the real 'value proposition' and its consequences, This new novel gives a new direction to further migrate from the MRP era, via the ERP era towards "selling bottom line results". At the end of the book they suggest (as a cliff hanger for maybe their next novel??) a possible way of how a total supply chain of stand alone companies might operate and deal with conflict of interest and sub optimization.
