Bernhard Schlink (Bielefeld, 1944) is emeritus hoogleraar Rechten aan de Humboldt Universiteit in Berlijn. Als schrijver verwierf hij vijftien jaar geleden wereldwijd naam en faam met zijn roman De voorlezer, de eerste buitenlandse roman die lange tijd op de eerste plaats stond in de bestsellerlijst van The New York Times.
