Dit is een mooie (auto)biografie. Het is grotendeels geschreven door Ronnie James Dio zelf, waar hij ergens niet verder gekomen moet zijn tot in zijn geschiedenis met de band Rainbow. Het grootste gedeelte van het boek concentreert zich dan ook op zijn jeugdjaren, waar naast amusante kattenkwaad herinneringen, uiteraard ook zijn eerste ervaringen in de muziek aan bod komen, met veel verschillend bands, die uiteindelijk in zijn eerste echte band resulteerde; Elf.
Na de Rainbow hoofdstukken, is er gebruik gemaakt van interviews om het verhaal af te maken. Ook komt in dat gedeelte Wendy Dio een aantal keer aan het woord. Zijn eerste Black Sabbath jaren komen er wat bekaaid vanaf in dit boek. Zijn eigen band Dio krijgt logischerwijs wel de ruimte, al eindigt het verhaal midden jaren 80, toen Dio commercieel op het hoogtepunt was. Ikzelf ben ook een groot fan van wat R. J. Dio in de jaren 90 en daarna deed, met opnieuw Black Sabbath en Dio. Maar een goed vervolg zal er op dit boek nooit komen....
Al is het dus niet helemaal compleet, het is zeker wel een aanwinst voor de Dio fan, met veel details die bij mij nog niet bekend waren.
