REBEL picks up right where REBOOT left off. Wren & Addie has succeed in saving Callum from becoming a flesh craving monster that he was becoming in the first book, REBOOT! And in the process they've manged to save all the Reboots in the Austin HARC facility. This is where REBEL picks back up!

A wonderful series with excellent world building and a plot that will keep you intrigued and thirsty for more, there's nothing that I can fault, brilliant all round.

After having read Reboot (which I totally loved) my expectations of Rebel were sky high. Maybe that was what has led me to the disappointment I felt whilst reading Rebel. I just didn't do it for me as Reboot had.
The first thing that struck me was the switch of number of POV's: in Reboot there was one, namely Wren's. In Rebel there were two: Wren's and Callum's. After having read Allegiant I've never really trusted changes in POV ever again, because that was when I learned the hard way that good things seldom come from those. So, in my head two options immediately pupped up; they either were going to get separated, or Wren was going to get killed and Callum would take over the story. It's kind of a huge spoiler within the book itself.
The first three chapters or so were insanely recapitulatory, kind of to the extent were I felt like Amy Tintera thought we as her readers were dumb. Luckily that changed later on, but about the first half of the book was meh to me as well. There were too many changes in too little time, none of which were worked out in a satisfying way. Towards the end it got much better. The frequency of subsequent events fell and I finally felt the same rush as I'd felt with Reboot.
So, negative things having been pointed out: I'm still very much in love with Callum. I'm glad we got to see things from his perspective ánd that Amy Tintera managed to really write from two different first person perspectives instead of two perspectives that really boil down to the same voice.
For a sequel, the storyline - which was pretty elaborate, to the point where I started wondering if some conflicts were ever to be resolved - was worked out greatly. Problems got solved, characters had changed (for the better) since the beginning of Rebel, and questions were answered. Not all ends met as well as others, but at least we got close on (pretty much) everything! That's a quality I very much value in books.

So, all and all the book had its pros and cons, which eventually led me to the 7/10 rating. I really enjoyed reading this sequel, and hope for more books by Amy Tintera!

Zeker een aanrader als je deel 1 (reboot) hebt gelezen. Het gaat precies verder waar reboot eindigde en gaat dan meteen verder met een spannend vervolg vol actie en onverwachte wendingen!

Het fijne aan dit tweede deel is dat het precies verder gaat waar het eerste boek is geëindigd. Aangezien ik de twee delen direct na elkaar heb gelezen, voelde het alsof het één boek was, dat in tweeën is gesneden. Het tweede deel is zeker zo aangrijpend en spannend als het eerste.
