John Williams
is schrijver.John Williams (1922-1994) groeide op in Texas, Amerika. Zijn grootouders waren boeren en zijn stiefvader werkte in een postkantoor. Gedurende WOII bracht hij tweeënhalf jaar door als sergeant in India en Burma. Hij begon tijdens zijn legering met het schrijven aan zijn debuutroman, Nothing But the Night, die in 1948 verscheen.
Na de oorlog verhuisde Williams naar Denver, Colorado, waar hij van de Universiteit van Denver een Bachelor of Arts (1949) en een Master of Arts (1950) ontving. In 1949 publiceerde Williams tevens een bundel poëzie: The Broken Landscape. Na het behalen van zijn Master of Arts ging hij lesgeven aan de Universiteit van Missouri, waar hij zijn Ph.D. in Engelse literatuur behaalde.
In 1960 verscheen zijn tweede roman, Butcher’s Crossing en die verfilmd is door Sam Mendes. Hij stierf in 1994 thuis, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Een vijfde, onvoltooide, roman, The Sleep of Reason, is nog niet gepubliceerd.
