John Gribbin omschrijf de algemene voortgang van wetenschap in geschiedenis. hij doet dit door per hoofdstuk een belangrijk tijdperk van wetenschap te omschrijven hij begint bij de jaren 1500. Hij gaat hier redelijk diep op in omschrijft ook voor zover het kan de uitvinder, wat er fout ging en waardoor het een belangrijk punt in geschiedenis werd. En vooral ook hoe. En hij weet men ook vaak geïnteresseerd te houden.

Dit is zeker een boek voor mensen die kennis en interesse hebben in wetenschap.
