Fantasierijk maar voorspelbaar plot.

Een zeer passend vervolg op Brent Weeks' eerste boek. De wereld die Weeks heeft gecreëerd is buitengewoon gedetailleerd en uitgewerkt.

Je wordt binnen enkele passages direct weer de wereld van Kylar ingezogen. Pas nadat het boek uit is, besef je pas hoeveel tijd je hebt verloren tijdens het lezen. Heerlijk.

Ik kan niet wachten totdat ik deel 3 uit heb van deze fantastische trilogie. Ik kijk uit naar Weeks' volgende romans.

Shadow's Edge is een van de beste boeken die ik in de afgelopen jaren heb gelezen. Het is bloedstollend spannend en een echte pageturner. Zodra ik erin begonnen was, heb ik het boek niet meer weggelegd. Brent Weeks schrijft fantastisch goed, waardoor je de wereld van Kylar ingezogen wordt en alles met hem beleeft. Ook vond ik het mooi dat er in dit boek ook gevoelige momenten zaten, dat maakt het boek wat menselijker.
Het plot wordt alsmaar ingewikkelder en steeds meer zaken komen aan het licht. Door onverwachte wendingen blijf je alsmaar doorlezen en wordt het boek nooit saai. Een echte aanrader!

Shortly after becoming Night Angel the immortal assassin in the first part of the Night Angel trilogy Kylar is determined to become a legitimate herbalist and start a family with his childhood crush Elene and adopted daughter Uly. However, his intention to stop as an assassin seems predestined for untimely failure as the head of the underground heads out to persuade him in helping to save the imprisoned king, while the Godking is trying to obtain his magical artifact that makes Kylar immortal.

Like the first part of the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks, this second installment suffers some flaws in storytelling techniques. Though less often as in the previous book the development of the story still relies too much on coincidences, perfectly timed flashes of brilliant realization, and those sorts of plot tricks. On the other hand, compared to ‘The Way of Shadows’ the characterization in this novel is more satisfactory as the characters are more believable. However, the bad guys (the Godking, Hu Gibbet) still remain one-dimensional caricatures.

Though these are serious flaws this is nevertheless a book that can be enjoyed as long as one does not expect it to be a masterpiece of literature. With the same fast paced and accessible writing style as in the first part of the trilogy this is still a novel that offers an entertaining and engaging story. Therefore, though the weak points in storytelling and characterization prevent this from being a four-star review, the book is still recommended, certainly as the much stronger final part of the Night Angel trilogy will make it all worthwhile.
