"Fuchsia Dunlop is an English writer and cook who specialises in Chinese cuisine. She was an East Asian analyst at the BBC World Service and has five books to her name, including the autobiography Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper. She writes regularly on cooking and restaurants in China for Gourmet and Saveur, and for the Financial Times on such matters as Beijing's bid to translate into English the exotic names of many Chinese dishes. She is a fluent Mandarin speaker.

    Geschreven bij Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper

    Een van de betere auteurs van Chinese kookboeken die zelf niet van Chinese afkomst is. In haar autobiografie beschrijft ze hoe ze in China terecht is gekomen en hoe ze haar hart daar verloor. Heel boeiend en leuk geschreven. Brengt ook veel begrip mee voor haar kookboeken. Veel herkenbare ervaringen. Ik vind dit een hele mooie aanvulling op haar collectie van kookboeken.

    Dit meest recente boek van Dunlop is niet zozeer een receptenboek, maar Dunlops autobiografie van haar jaren in China en daarna. Beschouwingen over de Chinese keuken, de Chinese manier van eten en hoe een Westers meisje tussen Chinese studenten leert koken. Biedt achtergrondinformatie over Dunlops studietijd in Chengdu, haar reizen door China en haar research voor haar boek over Hunan ten tijde van de SARS-epidemie.
