Eric Hill (1927-2014) is geboren in Londen en overleed op 86-jarige leeftijd in Californië. In 1976 bedacht hij het gevlekte hondje Dribbel speciaal voor zijn zoontje Christopher. Hij vond het belangrijk te laten zien dat jonge kinderen intelligenter zijn dan volwassenen vaak denken. Zijn eerste boek Waar is Dribbel? (1980) was tevens het eerste flapjesboek ter wereld. Het werd een bestseller. Sindsdien is Dribbel een van de bekendste figuurtjes uit de internationale jeugdliteratuur.
