"Graham Greene (1904-1991) geldt onbetwist als een van de grote schrijvers uit de twintigste eeuw. Zijn fictie kenmerkt zich door een modern-realistische stijl, met hoofdpersonen die in een donkere wereld leven waarin zij twijfelen aan God en aan zichzelf. Het katholieke geloof speelt een grote rol, maar de thematiek overstijgt het religieuze. Behalve auteur was Greene ook agent voor de Britse inlichtingendienst en hield hij zich bezig met filmkritiek. Beide aspecten zijn terug te vinden in zijn schrijfwerk, dat bijzonder filmisch en spannend is. Het geschonden geweten, oorspronkelijk verschenen als 'The Power and the Glory' (1940), is in Greenes werk van centrale betekenis. In 2011 verscheen het opnieuw als onderdeel van de reeks Christelijke klassieken, met een nawoord van Tjerk de Reus. Op bol.com vind je alle boeken van Graham Greene.
