His work is mainly in the field of quantum gravity, where he is among the founders of the loop quantum gravity theory. He has also worked in the history and philosophy of science. He collaborates with several Italian newspapers, in particular the cultural supplements of the Corriere della Sera, Il Sole 24 Ore and La Repubblica. Een interessant boek met een duidelijke visie van de schrijver op het begrip tijd op met name een zeer kleine (quantum) schaal en de theoretische gevolgen daarvan. De schrijver heeft een bijna poëtische schrijfstijl waardoor dit boek erg prettig wegleest. De schrijver gaat niet kwantitatief op de materie in, waardoor het prima te volgen is voor mensen die moeite hebben met wiskunde. Daardoor is het boek wel wat minder geschikt voor mensen die echt de diepgang zoeken.
