Cyriel Buysse

Cyriel Buysse wordt in 1859 geboren in Nevele bij Gent. Hij trouwt in 1896 met de Nederlandse Nelly Dyserinck. Zij vestigen zich in Den Haag, waardoor de Belgische auteur toegang krijgt tot de Nederlandse literaire kringen. In De Nieuwe Gids verschijnt in 1890 zijn geruchtmakende novelle 'De Biezenstekker', waarmee Buysse zich een reputatie als naturalistisch auteur verwerft. Samen met Louis Couperus en W.G. van Nouhuys richt hij in 1903 het tijdschrift Groot Nederland op. Buysse sterft op 25 juli 1932, vier dagen nadat hij door koning Albert in de adelstand is verheven.
