Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2001-2002

The Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean is published as a two-part volume. The first volume examines the main aspects of the regional economy, while the second contains analyses of the individual countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The first part of the survey, concerning the regional economy, has a new, more compact structure. It begins with a chapter covering the situation in the first semester of 2002 and the prospects for the year as a whole. The second chapter contains an analysis of various aspects of the regional economy in 2001, including macroeconomic policies and reforms, the performance of the internal economy and the external sector. The third chapter discusses a number of issues that are particularly relevant to the crisis currently affecting the region. The second part of the survey contains brief analyses of the economic performance of the 20 countries of Latin America and the English-speaking Caribbean during 2001 and early 2002. The country reports include tables and figures showing the main economic indicators. Lastly, the survey includes a ststistical appendix containing 13 regional tables. In order to facilitate data processing, the full text and graphics are provided in electronic format on a CD-ROM, which also carries over 400 tables that provide ready access to data for recent years and permit the creation of spreadsheets.
