    Geschreven bij A Military Atlas of the First World War

    For anyone interested in the battle events of the First world war, this book is a must!
    Yet it is not just a book of maps. There are concise description of events as well as clear drawings of army, navy and air force armaments. Indeed throughout the 352 pages of drawings descriptions and explanations the quality of presentation, and paper used, is excellent.

    Most books on warfare contain only a few static maps. This leaves the reader struggling to extrapolate evolving events from pages of textual explanations where often place names, rivers and other vital elements of the topography are not included on the ‘static’ map.
    Arthur Banks reverses the process by putting the map central, fully dynamic with concise notes showing the full sequence of events.

    I cannot overstate the quality of visual presentation and coverage presented by this book: Western theatres, Eastern theatres the peripheral European and African theatres, with full coverage of sea theatres.
    If there is one shortcoming it is regarding the activities of the Japanese contribution to the conflict, which although mentioned are not adequately described.

    The book completes with an extensive index and an additional index of armed forces.
    The reader can easily understand the full military dynamics of the First world war from these pages. Highly recommended!.
