Leuk, vlot leesbaar boek dat je doet beseffen hoe belangrijk kabeljauw was in de geschiedenis en ook wat beter de visserijconflicten, die nog veelvuldig de kop opsteken, doet begrijpen. Voor de koks bestaat het boek ook uit een vijftig pagina's aan kabeljauwrecepten.

The book was suggested by a colleague during the time that I traveled a lot for work. I like to read books with a 'story' to it. Something I could learn while killing travel time. And so I did, I enjoyed the book very much and have suggested it to many other people.
The book contains an interesting story with lots of historical facts. I did not know e.g. about the salt being used for stokfish, nor did I know very much about the fish-wars which took place in the past centuries.
It seems that the fisherman always had to - literally - fight for their catch, not only today.
The book places fisheries, in this case the Cod, in a different light, giving room for social, cultural and political aspects.
A very good and pleasant read - and if you like Cod, the book gives you many recipes as an extra!
