    Geschreven bij Lowside of the Road

    Het boek beschrijft heel gedetailleerd en evenwichtig de weg die Tom Waits in zijn leven heeft afgelegd. Het geeft het tijdsbeeld waarin dit gebeurde prachtig weer. Het is ook een zoektocht naar het antwoord op de vraag waar hoe dicht de personage op de stage overeenkomt met die in het dagelijkse leven. Vrijwel alle nummers worden besproken en prachtig getypeerd. Er passeren in het boek wel heel veel namen, wat de vaart enigszins uit het boek haalt. Maar dat is voor een biografie die de pretentie heeft een volledig beeld te scheten nu eenmaal niet te voorkomen.
    Voor iedere hardcore fan van Tom Waits is dit echt een "must read".
