Adam Tooze is auteur en hoogleraar Moderne Geschiedenis aan Columbia University, waar hij tevens de voorzitter is van het European Institute. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de economische wereldgeschiedenis en schreef eerder onder andere het veelgeprezen Gecrasht, over de financiële crisis van 2008, dat bekroond werd met de Lionel Gelber Prize.     Geschreven bij The Deluge

    The Deluge is geschreven door een econoom, en is dan ook een economische geschiedenis van de jaren 20 en 30. Het behandelt de inflatieperiodes en de impact hiervan op de Weimarrepubliek. De focus ligt bij Duitsland, maar het is zeker niet een economische geschiedenis van de Weimarrepubliek. Het behandelt de VS, VK, Frankrijk en andere economische grootmachten ook.

    Het nadeel is wel dat deze economische blik op de interbellum periode wat saai aandoet, en zelfs het lastig maakt om te lezen op zijn tijd. Adam Tooze is niet de allerbeste schrijver, maar het boek is grotendeels goed te volgen.
