Honoré de Balzac

Honoré de Balzac (1799 - 1850) studeerde rechten aan de Sorbonne en was als secretaris werkzaam op een advocatenkantoor. In 1819 brak hij zijn studie af om schrijver te kunnen worden. Sinds die tijd publiceerde hij uit geldgebrek onder pseudoniem talrijke colportageromans.

In de laatste twintig jaar van zijn leven ontpopte Balzac zich tot een van de grootste Franse schrijvers van de 19de-eeuw. Ook een van de meest productieve: in die periode voltooide hij zijn 85 romans, onder de overkoepelende titel La comédie humaine. In deze totaal-presentatie van de maatschappij gaf Balzac zowel een lengtedoorsnede van de geschiedenis vanaf de Franse Restauratie (1830 - 1850), als een dwarsdoorsnede van de verschillende sociale lagen in de samenleving.

When his plan to seduce her succeeds, Henri and Paquita maintain an intensely sexual relationship. However, when Henri starts to suspect Paquita is involved with another lover, he becomes overwhelmed with rage and jealousy. As he allows this emotion to cloud his judgement and conscience, Henri's possessiveness plots a heinous act-immoral even by his questionable standards, leading to shocking discoveries and sick twists.
