The McCartney Legacy (Volume 1) beschrijft het einde van The Beatles en de start van McCartney’s solocarrière met Wings. De albums McCartney, Ram, Thrillington, Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway en Band On The Run worden tot in detail beschreven. Daarbij voelt het niet als een opsomming van feiten. Het leest prettig door, omdat het ook gewoon goed geschreven is. Hier en daar kom je wat vierkante kaders tegen met details over specifieke opnamedagen. Ook zijn gezinsleven op de boerderij in Schotland en zijn beschadigde relatie met John, George en Ringo komt uitgebreid aan bod. Er zijn enkele zwart-wit foto’s te vinden in dit boek. Dat zijn mooie foto’s, maar wel minder spectaculair dan bijvoorbeeld zijn recente boek Paul McCartney: The Lyrics. De tekst is daarentegen het beste wat ik ooit over McCartney heb gelezen. Er is zoveel over zijn tijd bij The Beatles geschreven, maar weinig over alles na dat succes. De schrijvers hebben uitstekend onderzoek gedaan om dit boek fantastisch te maken. Ik kijk nu al uit naar Volume 2.
