Prachtig taalgebruik, mooie observaties van ontmoetingen met onbekenden in de straten van New York met wie de auteur in contact komt omdat hij hen wil fotograferen, en een ontroerend verslag van zijn liefdesrelatie met de bekende neuroloog Oliver Sacks. Bill Hayes bezit de gave om in enkele zinnen hele belevingswerelden voor de lezer te openen.
