Wat een mooi boek! 12 hoofdstukken/12 vragen ; bijvoorbeeld-wat is een aardbeving, zijn we alleen, wat is de zon, wat is een regenboog, wat is een wonder, waar is alles van gemaakt, wie was de eerste mens.... Na de vraag volgt er een antwoord, een voorwetenschappelijke/mythische verklaring van het fenomeen, daarna verklaart Dawkins het fenomeen met behulp van de wetenschappelijke methode.
Dit boek van Dawkins is zijn "makkelijkste" boek van al zijn boeken. Het boek schijnt voor kinderen te zijn geschreven. Het is inderdaad zeer toegankelijk en ik wou dat ik dit boek had toen ik 12 jaar oud was.
Als het boek uitkomt in het Nederlands is het het ideale geschenk voor nieuwsgierige kinderen en volwassenen.
Als je het uithebt voel je je slimmer en je waardeert het leven nog meer dan je al deed.

Richard Dawkins teams up with renowned artist Dave McKean for his latest book, aimed primary at children but also highly enjoyable for adults. In 12 chapters, we take look at life, the universe and everything. Mythology (including tales from the Christian/Jewish tradition) precedes concise essays about "how things really are". I wish I had had books like this one when I was a kid! At school, biology and physics were rather dull and lifeless subjects. Dawkins & McKean show us that reality is sparklingly magical indeed. The book feels like a general introduction to all kinds of interesting subjects (waveforms, supernovas, plate tectonics...) and makes you want to rush over to the library to learn more about all these wonderful things. The vocabulary is clearly toned down for children; maybe a tad patronising at times, when debunking ye olde tales (as in: "surely you do not believe THAT silly stuff"), but overall, very well written and highly inviting. Makes a great gift for inquisitive kids, together with Jay Hosler's equally entertaining "Evolution: The Story of Life on Earth".
