Marcus du Sautoy is hoogleraar wiskunde en Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science aan Oxford University. Dit boek biedt een heldere inleiding in de achtergrond van de Riemann Hypothese, via een mooie mengeling van historisch biografische informatie en niet-technische omschrijvingen van (vermoedelijk :-) ) zeer gecompliceerde wiskunde. Het vertelt een verhaal, en neemt je stap voor stap mee in zowel ontstaan van de hypothese als de wiskunde die er in de 150 jaar erna op volgde. Het boek daagde me uit tot net iets meer technische werken over dit onderwerp - al met al betreft het hier wis-kunst: het gaat niet alleen om het aanduiden van de vaardigheden en vooruitgang die bij wis-kunde hoort, maar ook om onbegrepen schoonheid die bij kunst hoort. Dit boek is een echte aanrader!
