Be warned: this story pulls you in and transforms you into a lazy, antisocial, binge-reading freak. Only after closing the book you notice that friends and family have tried to contact you, that household chores are right where you left them and that you haven’t got a clue what’s going on in the world. And then you learn that there’s a sequel and seriously consider taking a break from work and emigrate to an uninhabited island.

Geschreven bij The Siege

Mooi boek over de belegering van St Petersburg. Het geeft inzicht in het leven voor en tijdens de eerste winter en hoe zwaar de bewoners van de stad het hadden. Je leert over een stuk ww2 geschiedenis dat mij nooit is geleerd op school. Dat de stad St Petersburg bijna 900 dagen afgesloten is geweest van de buitenwereld, omsingeld door de Finnen en Duitsers.
