Charles Darwin
Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist who established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and proposed the scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection. His theory was first published in 1859, in his book On the Origin of Species. His theory is now accepted by the general public and can be seen as the beginning of modern understanding of evolution.

Werkelijk een indrukwekkend boek van de hand van Janet Browne. Ik lees veel en heb menig fraai boek in handen gehad maar dit is op het emotionele af prachtig, een boek dat je niet zomaar weglegt. Compleet! Ze beschrijft de mens Darwin, zijn jeugd, zijn werk, de reis, zijn privé, zonder je ergens in vast te zetten (niet té wetenschappelijk, niet té persoonlijk). Nuchter, afstandelijk, kritisch... Het enige nadeel van dit soort boeken is dat je daarna nooit meer een biografie over Darwin hoeft te lezen. Werkelijk een indrukwekkend boek dus, een van - zo niet het - beste boek dat ik ooit heb gelezen. Mooi!
